That...mostly sounds like somebody cheating. Like if you can just coast until one side wins and then decide you're the winner yourself without really doing anything just to destroy the universe--and actually, why do they want to destroy the universe? It's just programmed into them? If they can just be deleted or whatever by the Engineers. It sounds too easy for them to hide right under your nose.
